Raised platforms can be placed directly adjacent to pools. You are not able to lower a platform that is placed next to a pool, however. Unfortunately, pools cannot be placed inside of platforms. Pool ladders are also unable to connect a pool directly to a platform. There are a few ways to change the appearance of platforms.
This includes foundation swatches that were added with Expansion Packs and Game Packs. The only exception to this are the stilt foundations from Island Living.
This patch also adds five exclusive Platform Trims. For the most part, these match wall coverings already found in the Game. There are a variety of different styles hidden in the swatch list. Platforms are painted like foundations. You cannot add different trims to different sections of the platforms. The whole platform must be decorated using the same trim. As mentioned previously, half-walls can be placed against platforms.
Using half-walls allows you to decorate platforms with any of the wall coverings that are in the Game. This means it is possible to match the platform to any of the other walls in your build. There really are thousands of ways to utilise platforms in your builds. As I touched on briefly before, Sims are able to step between platforms if the platforms are short enough in height.
This means that it is entirely possible to create custom staircases in The Sims 4. These staircases can be as wide, or as thin, as you like, and can have a much greater depth than the default staircases in the Game.
Constrained floor elevation was an integral aspect of The Sims 3 for many builders. The ability to create rooms of any height allowed Simmers to build incredible structures with lots of interlocking spaces and interesting architectural features.
Platforms allow you to finally recreate this effect in The Sims 4. This is going to be especially useful for modern builds. One of the biggest issues for Sims 4 builders is that flat roofs always look too flat. Placing a platform on top of your contemporary houses will make the build look that bit more realistic. Using platforms alongside the other roof tools in the Game will allow Simmers to create super interesting roof designs.
You should be aware, however, that roofs cannot be placed on top of platforms. Attempting to place a roof on a platform will cause the roof to clip through that platform. Did this issue appear after a specific patch or change you made to your system? Yes Please describe the patch or change you made. November - last edited November Yes this happens in my game. The platform does not just need to be in the room. But needs to touch the roof.
If you place the platform on part of the first floor where the roof doesn't reach, it's fine. But once it touches the roof the roof comes inside. Edit: after trying a little bit more I realised it always happens when the platform is touching one of the outside walls. With 2x2 platform inside. Roof falls in when platform is under it. Ceiling was fine without any hole where roof fell in:. November You can help the issue some by using the half roofs rather than the full roofs to make a roof over lower levels and you can use the eave tool to pull back the eave edges.
But the issue where the roof shows up on the platform itself even when the platform is not against the exterior wall is a real problem. Changing room dimensions and where the platform is within the room seems to help a bit but not in all cases.
I agree that it shouldn't work this way. I didn't check using the round, and multisided roofs when I was testing but I suspect those will be worse as they had a problem with showing up inside rooms before the Nov 10 patch. I also didn't test in live mode.
Sometimes, what we see with roofs intruding in rooms in build mode does not show up in live mode. Maybe it's hard to see, but my 2x2 platform did not touch any walls. Roof was inside with Free Cam. I did see that with your platform. The same thing happened for me when I used full roofs in my testing. I have seen that before too before platforms were added. Platforms just seem to make it worse. So the best advice I can offer is to use the half roofs instead of full roofs.
A bit more work and sometimes you can't get the effect you are after exactly but I have found that that works most of the time. When I used half roofs, most of the issues went away for me. Sometimes when I resize them and the change them again the original size stays as a kid of ghost form, the same thing happened with stairs - attached below. However, if I select the foundation tool and try to place it now, the game yells at me that I can only put a foundation on the ground….
Bah, same thing. Okay, this is where the cheat gets a little weird. Okay, so to recap, after putting in the cheat, we unselected the foundation, then reselected it. The interface is still showing us we have the foundation selected, but we trace a section over the wall, and…. There we go! Now, I could even make more layers of the frieze if I wanted. This way the foundation tool switches back to being a foundation; if I try to place a frieze on ground level, the game will yell at me for that as well:.
Turning the cheat off results in the same oddity as turning it on: if you have the frieze tool selected, and you turn off the cheat, then the game still thinks the frieze is what you want to build. Anyway, between the pattern builder and the frieze cheat, you can make some truly epic designs for your homes, especially tall towers.
